Mental Health Consultant Job

The Watson Institute’s Training and Consultation Services program is hiring a full-time Mental Health Consultant to work with local area school districts to support students. This position will work Monday through Friday and will be on-site at partnering school districts.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct consultation to school personnel for emotional and social support of students. This may include but is not limited to:
    • Developing action plans for consultation based on information from the district or agency for the consultation
    • Developing specialized materials such as visual supports and social stories
    • Contributing to the evaluation procedures
    • Teaming with school personnel to arrive at appropriate outcomes for a child or program/participating in team meetings
    • Writing IEP goals and maintaining progress monitoring
    • Attending and contributing to the IEP at meetings
    • Assisting in preparation of progress reports
    • Presenting workshops to groups as requested by school district personnel
    • Developing a good, professional working relationship with key team members of the district
    • Maintaining consistent communication with onsite contact
  • Provide direct training and therapeutic support to students. This may include but is not limited to:
    • Developing specialized lessons for social skills and emotional regulation
    • Providing student-centered, individual, and group psychotherapy to students in a school district setting based on identified needs
    • Providing group therapeutic services focusing on self-regulation, creative problem solving, perspective taking, pragmatic language skills, social skills, and relationship development
    • Maintaining therapeutic records and data necessary to monitor progress
    • Arranging for appropriate services for students as requested by the district
    • Collaborating with other professionals, families, and agencies to provide unified services and continuity of care to the student
  • Attend meetings and complete all duties required of Training and Consultation Department of the Watson Institute. This may include but is not limited to the following:
    • Attend all required Training and Consultation meetings
    • Present on-site contact person with formative and summative evaluation annually (Formative – January); (Summative – May)
    • Complete monthly contract and mileage forms
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, art therapy, or closely related mental health field required
  • License required (LSW, LCSW, or LPC)
  • Knowledge of and experience with a range of autism intervention techniques
  • Available to work as a member of a transdisciplinary team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Current Acts 34, 114, and 151 clearances required
  • Pre-employment medical examination, including a tuberculosis test, required
