The Watson Institute is hiring a Help Desk Technician intern to work in the Information Services Department at our Sewickley, PA location. This position will work Monday through Friday during the business hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The start and end dates are flexible, and the internship will be a 3-month assignment.

Help Desk Tech Job Description
The IT Help Desk Technician Intern will support the Information Services team at the Watson Institute while gaining hands-on experience in a professional IT environment. Under the guidance of the IT Director and Network Administrators, the intern will assist in the following areas:
- Technical Support & Equipment Maintenance: Assist in maintaining, documenting, and supporting computer-related equipment across all Watson Institute locations, including the Ed Center, Cupples Center, Ed Center South, LEAP, and WISCA. This includes supporting workstations, laptops, tablets, printers, and basic server environments. Help track and update inventory of hardware and software.
- Network support: provide basic support for network operations, including assisting with switches, wireless devices, and connectivity troubleshooting. Gain exposure to core networking concepts such as DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP, and system security.
- Team Collaboration: work closely with Network Administrators and IT staff to support daily operations and projects. Assist with coordinating vendor support and equipment setup when needed.
- Telecommunications Systems: Learn the fundamentals of managing and supporting the organization’s phone and voicemail systems.
- Help Desk Support: Serve as a first point of contact for staff IT issues. Provide timely, friendly, and effective support for hardware, software, and basic network problems.
- Multi-Site Support: May assist with IT needs at additional facilities, including Friendship Academy, as needed
- Technology Implementation: Support the rollout and testing of new technologies and system updates under supervision
- Software Support: Assist with installing, updating, and troubleshooting software applications used throughout the organization
- Classroom Technology Support: Help support instructional technology and assist staff with basic training and troubleshooting in classroom environments
- Additional Duties: Perform other IT-related tasks and projects as assigned by the IT Director to support departmental goals
- Professional Conduct: Maintain a professional, courteous, and customer-focused approach when assisting staff, with an emphasis on learning and service excellence
- Other duties as assigned
Internship Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Currently pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
- Basic understanding of computer systems, networks, and operating systems (Windows preferred)
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to follow directions well and work independently
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Current Act 34, 114, and 151 clearances
