Case Manager Job – Friendship Academy

The Watson Institute is hiring a full-time Case Manager at Friendship Academy, a special education school for students with behavioral and mental health challenges in Pittsburgh, PA. This position will work Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Assume primary responsibility for the coordination and dissemination of behavioral, absent without leave (AWOL), and restraint reports
  • Call and inform parents or guardians on instances of AWOLs and restraints on the day of occurrence and document contact
  • Inform the social worker of restraints and/or AWOLs on the day of the occurrence
  • Serve as the point of contact for behavioral reports and prioritize reports according to severity
  • Inform and assist the program supervisors with discipline referrals
  • Responsible for searching and securing student belongings during arrivals and distributing belongings during student dismissal
  • Has primary responsibility for communicating the outcome of the discipline referral to social workers within the same day a disposition is reached. Provide the social worker with a copy of the behavioral report.
  • Assist the program supervisors in the scheduling of the supervised study room. Communicate to classroom staff the date of expected return to the regular classroom.
  • Assist in general supervision and support of students in the milieu (cafeteria, hallways, transition, arrival and dismissal times)
  • Assists with students in crisis using strategies learned in the Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCM) training
  • Assist staff in implementing the school-wide positive behavioral support system
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education, Special Education, or a related field required
  • Documented success in working with children and adolescents
  • Good organizational skills
  • Good written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • PA Driver’s License required
  • The essential functions of the job described require the ability to exert moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, kneeling, crouching and brisk walking, and which may involve lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (40 pounds)
  • Ability to use the strategies of Comprehensive Crisis Management and Ukeru to physically support students for their safety and the safety of others
  • Pre-employment medical examination, including a tuberculosis test required
  • Current Act 34, 114, and 151 clearances required
