Social Worker – Friendship Academy
The Watson Institute is hiring a full-time Social Worker to serve a partner school district and at Friendship Academy, a Watson Institute special education school for children with special needs ages 5 to 21. This position works Monday through Friday and follows the administrative calendar.

Location: Pittsburgh, PA
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct clinical support to students and families (if appropriate) utilizing evidence-based treatments (cognitive behavioral treatment, family systems, Dialectical behavior, social skills, and program solving therapy)
- Collaborate with education team and participate in IEP meetings as needed
- Conduct individual/group therapy with assigned students as directed
- Function as a liaison with community agencies and service system providers to facilitate continuity of student and family care
- Evaluate student and family data, select appropriate intervention methods and implement programs in conjunction with multidisciplinary team based on an understanding of psychiatric symptomatology and family systems principles
- Conduct meetings with the school team reviewing goals and progress and provide updates on family or community activity and progress
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Master’s Degree in Human Services field
- Ten years or more of clinical experience in a psychiatric setting working with children and families diagnosed with a variety of psychiatric disorders
- Experience working with secondary aged students with severe emotional challenges
- Ability to work at both a school district and Friendship Academy, including during summer
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, act as a self-starter, and take iniative
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and written/oral communication skills
- Ability to physically restrain students for their safety and the safety of others
- Current Acts 34, 114, and 151 clearances
