What does a Special Education Teacher do at Watson?
As a special education teacher at the Watson Institute, you’ll support students with disabilities in a supportive classroom environment.
Each day offers new opportunities to learn and support your students as they grow, but typically, your responsibilities will include:
- create lesson plans, update data sheets, and prepare materials for classroom lessons and activities
- support students as they transition between the bus and the classroom, completing daily self-care and toileting routines
- manage classroom staff (aides and behavior technicians) in the support of students and classroom activities
- lead group instructions and 1:1 teacher time, helping students work on IEP goals
- data collection, tracking, and analysis
- communicate with parents, posting updates to student and classroom pages
- work collaboratively with staff in other disciplines (i.e. PT, OT, Speech, social work, nursing, behavior specialists, etc.)
- support students in the development of daily living skills, social skills, and community-based independence
