Situation
I work with older students who always fight about who is first in line. Our transitions are difficult to begin with but this makes it even worse. Do you have any suggestions?

Summary
By using a list, you can visually indicate the order in which students are to line up. The order can be easily changed either daily or weekly depending on the needs of your students.

A Line Up List is a visual support strategy to show students which order to line up in.

Process

Have each student write their name on an index card. If your students have difficulty recognizing his/her name, you can use color-coded cards or picture next to name.

Place a strip of Velcro by your door and put Velcro on the back of each index card.

Put the cards up and show the students.

After a designated period of the time (each day, weekly, each time your line up), move the student who was first to the last spot. Move each student up one spot.
