Wraparound services are designed to help children and adolescents with significant behavioral or mental health needs live and thrive in their communities. Also known as Behavioral Health Rehabilitation Services (BHRS), wrap around services are offered when a child’s Psychiatric or Psychological Evaluation determines these services are beneficial and that the child is eligible for this service.
The wraparound services offered by the Watson Institute are specifically designed for children and adolescents diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. We know that in order for children with special needs to make gains in social skills and communication, concentrated instruction and reinforcement is essential. Our therapeutic interventions focus on developing these skills in small steps.
How does Wraparound work?
The Watson Institute’s approach to wraparound services is unique to each child with autism spectrum disorder or special needs and their family. The child’s team includes family members and professionals who develop a plan of supports and interventions that focus on the child’s strengths to help the child learn the best ways to communicate and behave in any setting – whether it be at home, at school, or in the community.
Trained professionals will work one-on-one with children with special needs to teach them and their family members the skills they need to function in the “real world”. The team helps to carry these skills beyond therapy sessions, in the families’ homes, daycare programs, and in other community-based settings.
Wraparound services start with an evaluation.
If your child with special needs or autism spectrum disorder hasn’t had an evaluation that recommends wrap around services, learn more about our psychological evaluation services. If there has already been a psychological evaluation, you have 60 days to initiate services before the evaluation “expires”. The Watson Institute can also conduct the re-evaluations if that is the case.
