School Nurse Job

The Watson Institute is hiring a full-time School Nurse at the Education Center Sewickley, a special education school.

This position will work Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., and follow the School Calendar and Summer School Program.

Employment Type: Full-time

School Nurse Job Responsibilities:

  • Complete nursing assessments, manage and prioritize care, provide interventions for multiple students
  • Administer medications according to written orders and follow nursing policies and procedures
  • Coordinate school health program
  • Communicate with Education Center nursing staff for consistency of implementation of policies and procedures across all Watson programs
  • Develop and maintain student health records and provide health information for all IEPs
  • Connect with families to request necessary paperwork, return-to-school dates, and relay pertinent medical information
  • Assess and record staff work-related injuries and maintain work-related employee health files
  • Maintain daily log of nursing activities and eMAR
  • Train staff in American Red Cross First Aid and CPR
  • Other duties as assigned

School Nurse Skills Required:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Relate to students in a tolerant, positive, encouraging, and respectful manner
  • Routinely communicate with parents – answering questions honestly, realistically, and with sensitivity
  • Work cooperatively with others as a team member
  • Continually improve professional skills and knowledge

School Nurse Job Requirements:

  • Current PA Registered Nurse license required
  • Bachelor of Science in nursing preferred
  • Certified School Nurse certification preferred
  • First Aid / CPR instructor certification or willingness to get training for certification
  • Experience working with children with special needs preferred
  • Ability to lift and position students weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Current PA Acts 34, 114 and 151 clearances required
  • Pre-employment medical examination, including a tuberculosis test required
