Mental Health Clinician – WISCA – Sharpsburg

The Watson Institute is hiring a full-time Mental Health Clinician for the WISCA special education school program. This position will work Monday through Friday.

Clinician Job Responsibilities: 

  • Provide student-centered psychotherapy and case management to a population with Autism Spectrum Disorders in a classroom setting
  • Facilitate small group activities that focus on self-regulation, creative problem solving, perspective taking, pragmatic language skills, and relationship development
  • Collaborate with classroom teacher in order to provide unified services and continuity of care to the student
  • Assist students in developing social skills and facilitate development of peer interactions using autism-specific therapeutic techniques such as Social Stories and Comic Strip Conversations
  • Maintain therapeutic records and data necessary to monitor progress
  • Participate in IEP meetings
  • Write individualized therapeutic treatment plans and IEPs
  • Liaise with other student service providers in the community
  • Collaborate with families and assist them with resources at home and in the community
  • Assess student status during behavioral episodes and mental health crises
  • Help students problem solve and communicate their needs in an expected manner

Mental Health Clinician Requirements:

  • Masters Degree in Mental Health field required
  • Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Clinical Social Worker preferred
  • Significant clinical experience in a psychiatric setting working with children and families diagnosed with a variety of psychiatric disorders as well as the provision of family/group/individual therapy
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and written/oral communication skills
  • The essential functions of the job described require the ability to exert moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, kneeling, crouching, and brisk walking, which may involve lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and material of moderate weight (40 pounds)
  • Ability to physically restrain students for their safety and the safety of others
  • Current Act 34, 114, and 151 clearances required
