Special Education Program Director Job – Education Center Sewickley

The Watson Institute is hiring a full-time Education Program Director for the Education Center Sewickley special education school program.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the design, development, and delivery of special education to the Education Center Sewickley program in accordance with Pennsylvania state and federal regulations
  • Ensuring yearly licensee requirements are met and are following PA Department of Education compliance standards
  • Maintains familiarity with the Federal and State laws and regulations governing general and special education and accompanying operational procedures or changes
  • Oversee all education staff which includes overseeing professional development of staff
  • Implementation, training, and supervising the development of and progress monitoring for all IEP’s and evaluations
  • Assists in the selection and recommendation for hiring staff for the Education Center Sewickley program
  • Developing and following financial budgets for the program
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with Intermediate Units school district representatives and meeting all school district requirements
  • Communicates in an effective and professional manner on a daily basis with staff, parents, and IU and district partners
  • Works well with others, builds effective teams, and thinks and acts in terms of “we” not “I”
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Education or Special Education
  • Supervisor of Special Education Certificate, must already be completed or in the process of completing
  • Five years of Special Education teaching experience
  • Three years of school administrative experience
  • Knowledgeable about educational trends, research and innovative practices in education
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills required
  • Proven problem-solving skills and decision-making skills
  • Advanced proficiency with computer skills and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Essential functions of this position described require the ability to exert moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, kneeling, crouching and brisk walking; it also may involve lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (40 pounds)
  • Current Act 34, 114 and 151 clearances required
