Training and Consultation Services

Training & Consultation

The Watson Institute provides Training and Consultation to school districts and agencies in Western Pennsylvania, Ohio and New Jersey.

Consultants working with schools provide numerous consultation services tailored to the requested needs of the district.  These services are student focused, classroom based or district based.  Some examples in each of these areas include:

Student focused:

  • Observe a student in regular and/or special education settings, then follow up with verbal and written feedback and sit-down consultation for the student
  • Provide crisis consultation
  • Assist with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behavior Support Plans

Classroom focused:

  • Assist teams with classroom development and set up
  • Provide strategies to become efficient and effective teams
  • Provide and teach Quality Guidelines for classrooms serving students on the Autism Spectrum
  • Observe classroom operations with weekly follow-up consultation
  • Provide Social Skill training for middle and high school groups
  • Provide a lending library of materials and curricula

District based:

  • Provide in-service training for special educators and paraprofessionals district wide
  • Provide in-service training for individual school faculty.  Typical topics requested include:
    • Autism Spectrum Disorder overviews
    • Asperger Disorder
    • Behavior strategies
