Wraparound Services

Learn more about Watson! Watch Watson's informational video!

Wraparound services are designed to provide intensive service to children with autism and autism spectrum disorders. These services are provided in the child’s home or designated location in the community.

The Watson Institute’s approach to wraparound services is unique to each child and family. We develop our approach and recommendations based on each child’s strengths and weaknesses. Watson’s wraparound services emphasize developing social skills important to positive outcomes for each child.

Watson professionals use the latest intervention tools and techniques that have been proven effective in helping children with autism to make gains developmentally and socially.

Before a child begins to receive wraparound services, a treatment plan meeting is held to determine the child’s needs and to develop specific objectives. Any individuals—including family members, school personnel, caseworkers and appropriate Watson staff—involved in meeting the child’s needs are invited to participate in this meeting. If appropriate, the child is also included in the treatment plan meeting.

When working with children with autism spectrum disorders, we teach skills systematically and in small steps. Our emphasis is on the development of social skills and social communications. Because we at Watson know that in order for a child with autism spectrum disorders to make gains in these areas, concentrated instruction and reinforcement is needed. We not only focus on a child’s areas of weakness, we also reinforce a child’s strengths. This approach provides each child the opportunity to display his or her full range of skills.
