Transition Services

Transition Services prepare all of our students for careers, citizenship and life-long learning. Students develop competence, confidence and connections through participation in three components: school-based learning, work-based learning and career education activities.

School-Based Component:

Transition component as indicated by the student's Individualized Education Program, beginning at 14 years of age.

Craig Academy's transition program prepares our students for real world employment opportunities.  Students participate in career education classes that provide them with opportunities for exploratin using the Keys2Work program.  Students are given opportunities to participate in job shadows, vocational/technical school visits, CCAC tours, internships and other exploratory experiences.  Students begin their work program with in-house jobs at Craig Academy either in the food service program, maintenance, library, ESY program and other in-house jobs.  Once students demonstrate successful job related skills, they are ready to enter the community work force.  Students are placed in various first job experiences with Craig Academy staff working closely with the on-site supervisors.  Current business partners include:  King of Pet care, West Penn Hospital, Giant Eagle, henry's Auto repair, Iezzi's Auto Repair, Shop and Save, Shadyside Presbyterian Church, Hilton Hotels, TJ Maxx and the Animal Rescue League.
